The European Commission has approved
the Vivendi and Activision merger which will give
Vivendi a 52 percent stake in a new company called
Activision Blizzard.
The Commission justified its decision by saying that its huge stake in the software industry will still face strong competition from companies such as
Electronic Arts,
Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft.
The new company will have quite a stable of IPs under its belt such as
Warcraft,
StarCraft,
Guitar Hero,
Call of Duty, and
Tony Hawk. It makes one wonder
what impact this new player in the video game industry will be making.
